Just Transition PB Fund returns for a third year

Community groups and third sector organisations across the North East and Moray will be invited once again to apply for funding to support their green and eco friendly projects with the return of the Just Transition PB Fund for a third year.

The JTPB Fund aims to empower the residents of Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen and Moray by giving local residents a crucial role in shaping the just transition to a net zero future in the region.

During the first two years of the fund, £2.5million was distributed to 99 eco-friendly projects across the region which are currently making a positive difference within local communities.

Once again for 2024, £1million has been made available (£333,333 for each region) to support local grassroots green projects from third sector organisations and community groups.

The Scottish Government funded initiative is being delivered locally by ACVO TSI, Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action, tsiMORAY, NESCAN Hub and Money for Moray who will be actively engaging with communities in the region to enable everyone to take an active part in the just transition to net zero by sharing ideas and providing project development support and application assistance.

The Fund is an opportunity for communities to put forward projects that match local needs and priorities while playing an active part in making the region green and more eco-friendly. As part of the process, residents are then invited to have the final say over which initiatives are funded through a public vote which will open later in 2024.

Maggie Hepburn, Chief Executive of ACVO TSI said: “We are delighted to announce that the Just Transition PB fund is returning for a third year and urge community groups and third sector organisations in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray to start thinking about potential projects that the fund could support ahead of applications going live in August.

“During the first two years of the fund we were impressed by the innovative thinking behind the projects that were supported. It has been fantastic to see the positive impact these are having in the region and how they are contributing to our collective drive towards net-zero.”

Years 1 and 2 of the fund saw projects supported from organisations such as AberNecessities and The Breadmaker in Aberdeen; Friends of Tarliar and Buchan Dial a Community Bus in Aberdeenshire; and Buckie Thistle FC and Cullen Sea School in Moray.

More information about these, and other projects already supported by the fund can be viewed at jtpbfund.scot/projects
